A Thought For The Week:

HE IS SOVEREIGN
By: A. W. Pink

Friend; was there not a time when you walked in the counsel of the ungodly, stood in the way of sinners, sat in the seat of the scorners, and with them said, "We will not have this man to reign over us" (Luke 19:14)? Was there not a time when you "would not come to Christ that you might have life" (John 5:40)? Yea, was there not a time when you mingled your voice with those who said unto God, "Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of Thy ways. What is the Almighty, that we should serve Him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto Him" (Job 21:14,15)? With shamed face you have to acknowledge there was. But how is it that all is now changed? What was it that brought you from haughty self-sufficiency to a humble suppliant, from one that was at enmity with God to one that is at peace with Him, from lawlessness to subjection, from hate to love? And, as one born of the Spirit, you will readily reply, "By the grace of God I am what I am" (1 Corinthians 15:10). Then do you not see that it is due to no lack of power in God, nor to His refusal to coerce man, that other rebels are not saved too? If God was able to subdue your will and win your heart, and that without interfering with your moral responsibility, then is He not able to do the same for others? Assuredly He is. Then how inconsistent, how illogical, how foolish of you, in seeking to account for the present course of the wicked and their ultimate fate, to argue that God is unable to save them, that they will not let Him. Do you say, "But the time came when I was willing, willing to receive Christ as my Saviour?" True, but it was the Lord who made you willing (Psalm 110:3; Philippians 2:13); why then does He not make all sinners willing? Why, but for the fact that He is sovereign and does as He pleases!

News For The Week:

...A pro-life advocate in Texas says even with limitations, a parental notification law in the Lone Star State is accomplishing what its authors intended. In its first three years of implementation, the Texas Parental Notification Law has helped prevent many abortions. But the law contains a loophole known as the "judicial bypass," which allows a minor girl to obtain a judge's permission to have an abortion. Joe Pojman, executive director of the Texas Alliance for Life in Austin, says it is a good law -- but abortion proponents have abused the loophole. "Several years ago, then-Governor George W. Bush signed into law a very good pro-life bill [that requires] abortion providers to notify one parent at least 48 hours before [an abortion is performed] on their young daughter," Pojman explains. "We believe that there are some major flaws in the law that are being exploited by abortion providers here in Texas -- and we'd like to see those loopholes shored up." Pojman says even with the loophole, the law is credited with lowering the number of abortions on girls 17 and younger by 26 percent. [Rusty Pugh]
C. H. Spurgeon:

"He that watereth shall be watered also himself." --Proverbs 11:25

We are here taught the great lesson, that to get, we must give; that to accumulate, we must scatter; that to make ourselves happy, we must make others happy; and that in order to become spiritually vigorous, we must seek the spiritual good of others. In watering others, we are ourselves watered. How? Our efforts to be useful, bring out our powers for usefulness. We have latent talents and dormant faculties, which are brought to light by exercise. Our strength for labour is hidden even from ourselves, until we venture forth to fight the Lord's battles, or to climb the mountains of difficulty. We do not know what tender sympathies we possess until we try to dry the widow's tears, and soothe the orphan's grief. We often find in attempting to teach others, that we gain instruction for ourselves. Oh, what gracious lessons some of us have learned at sick beds! We went to teach the Scriptures, we came away blushing that we knew so little of them. In our converse with poor saints, we are taught the way of God more perfectly for ourselves and get a deeper insight into divine truth. So that watering others makes us humble. We discover how much grace there is where we had not looked for it; and how much the poor saint may outstrip us in knowledge. Our own comfort is also increased by our working for others. We endeavour to cheer them, and the consolation gladdens our own heart. Like the two men in the snow; one chafed the other's limbs to keep him from dying, and in so doing kept his own blood in circulation, and saved his own life. The poor widow of Sarepta gave from her scanty store a supply for the prophet's wants, and from that day she never again knew what want was. Give then, and it shall be given unto you, good measure, pressed down, and running over.

A Special Prayer Request:

We at the The Sovereign Grace Missionary Baptist Church have received a report from the family of our former Pastor Oscar Mink. It has come to out attention that Bro. Mink is not doing good. It was told to us he may have just a few weeks left. Please remember his family in these last days of his life. It is always hard to see a loved one go on to be with the Lord although you know they are ready. Bro. Mink has been a good and faithful servant to our Lord and God will reward him for his work in His service. To the family of Bro. Mink if there is anything we as a Church can do please let us know. May God Bless you all in this time.

My love is oft-times low;
My joy still ebbs and flows;
But peace in Christ remains the same;
NO CHANGE JEHOVAH KNOWS.

I change, He changes not;
The Christ can never die;
His love, not mine, my resting place;
HIS TRUTH, NOT MINE, THE TIE.
