| A Thought For The
Week: "A WILLING PEOPLE " Psalm 110:3 "Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties
of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy
youth." Psalm 110:3 Any who suppose that God is sovereign in every area, except over man's will, imply that man exercises some control that is outside the realm of God's power and authority. Were that true, then God would not be God! All creatures live, move, and have their being in Him, Acts 17:28. It also would mean that man is not completely lost, since he would still retain the power and possibility of believing on Christ. Such a teaching is contrary to all that the Scriptures witness of natural men. They are spiritually dead, unable, and unwilling to come to Christ, unless God first gives them the power and authority, John 1:11, 12. Nevertheless, it is just as wrong to assume that since God does the saving, that He saves against the sinner's will. The glorious truth of Psalm 110:3, and all of Scripture, is that no matter how strong the sinner's opposition to the Gospel of God's sovereign grace in Christ, God's will, purpose, and grace will conquer. Notice that the verse reads, "Thy people SHALL be willing..." Who are these people? They are God's by His eternal distinguishing choice. He chose a people out of all of fallen humanity, that He might show them His mercy and unmerited favor in Christ, Eph. 1:3-5. They are God's by redemption. When the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross, he purchased unto God the Father, that people whom the Father chose and gave to Him. Christ prayed for them in the garden, "I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them," John 17:9, 10. They are God's by regeneration. In time, the Spirit of God does work upon the heart of every elect sinner. He first produces life in them, by revealing in them Christ, who is life, 1 John 5:20! They willingly come to Him in faith, believing on Him alone, whose blood and righteousness cover them, and make them accepted in Christ, Ephesians 1:6-9. Are you a willing sinner? Do you agreeably and uniquely trust Christ
alone for your salvation, giving him all the glory for His almighty,
sovereign grace? Is Christ daily in your mind and heart? Do you serve
him in every ordinance of His Word? Do you graciously receive all of His
doctrine? Are you generous in your giving and service, and gracious in
attitude toward one another? This is the power and grace of God in the
heart of the Lord's people, Ezra 1:1-6. By: Author Unknown |
| News for the week: ...One man who knows the nature of radical Islam warns that Sunday's
election in Iraq was only the first of many difficult steps ahead for
the fledgling democracy. Robert Spencer, director of a group known as
Jihad Watch, enjoyed the celebration of freedom expressed in the huge
turnout of Iraqis who braved the insurgent threat to go to the polls on
January 30. However, he says it would be premature to say that democracy
has won in Iraq and that jihadist forces are on the run. "There will
always be significant elements in the Iraqi public sphere that consider
that no law has any legitimacy except the law of Allah -- Islamic law --
the Sharia," Spencer notes. He warns that any attempt at freedom and
democracy in an Islamic-dominated nation will see intense government
scrutiny, and jihadists will always be nearby, waiting for an
opportunity to undermine such efforts. The spokesman for Jihad Watch
says Muslims who favor Sharia law are directly opposed to democracy. [Bill

| Sent by the Father: by C. H. Spurgeon "The Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world." --1 John 4:14 It is a sweet thought that Jesus Christ did not come forth without His Father's permission, authority, consent, and assistance. He was sent of the Father, that He might be the Saviour of men. We are too apt to forget that, while there are distinctions as to the persons in the Trinity, there are no distinctions of honour. We too frequently ascribe the honour of our salvation, or at least the depths of its benevolence, more to Jesus Christ than we do the Father. This is a very great mistake. What if Jesus came? Did not His Father send Him? If He spake wondrously, did not His Father pour grace into His lips, that He might be an able minister of the new covenant? He who knoweth the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost as he should know them, never setteth one before another in his love; he sees them at Bethlehem, at Gethsemane, and on Calvary, all equally engaged in the work of salvation. O Christian, hast thou put thy confidence in the Man Christ Jesus? Hast thou placed thy reliance solely on Him? And art thou united with Him? Then believe that thou art united unto the God of heaven. Since to the Man Christ Jesus thou art brother, and holdest closest fellowship, thou art linked thereby with God the Eternal, and "the Ancient of days" is thy Father and thy friend. Didst thou ever consider the depth of love in the heart of Jehovah, when God the Father equipped His Son for the great enterprise of mercy? If not, be this thy day's meditation. The Father sent Him! Contemplate that subject. Think how Jesus works what the Father wills. In the wounds of the dying Saviour see the love of the great I AM. Let every thought of Jesus be also connected with the Eternal, ever-blessed God, for "It pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He hath put Him to grief." |

| My desire is . . . 1. To exalt the grace of God. 2. To proclaim salvation alone through the blood and righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ. 3. To declare the sinfulness, helplessness, and hopelessness of man in a state of nature. 4. To describe, as far as I am able, the living experience of the saints of God in their trials, temptations, and sorrows--and in their consolations and blessings. By: Letters of J. C. Philpot |
