Pastor: "What is your
Identity?" Beloved if someone was attempting to identify you as a person, what sort of identity do think it would include? Do you think that person would identify you as one that reminded them of God? No I am not Blaspheming God in that question at all. Let’s not forget we were created in the image of God, not as a person but rather in many other ways. We were created holy, upright, in truthfulness, and etc. Ephesians 4:24 "And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness." Holiness and truthfulness was part of our original creation in Adam however this was all lost in the fall but by the wonderful grace of God is regained in Christ Jesus. If we as believers are not being identified as one who is righteous and a holy person then we are not living up to why God so graciously saved us, because we were saved to renew these wonderful attributes in us. We cannot properly serve the most Righteous and Holy God if we are not walking in fellowship with Him. Let’s look at another verse Colossians 3:10 "And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:" Yes this was another casualty of the fall, and was lost, that spiritual knowledge of our Creator, but again by the grace of a merciful God have been given a chance of being renewed in it by Jesus Christ. We are studying the book of Colossians at out church and we have learned that this "knowledge" is in fact "spiritual intelligence" which is the knowledge of God and His wonderful mind. Man in his lost state will never understand God because they have no living spirit to contain this intelligence. They are dead and that means spiritually dead. Dead men have no righteousness, holiness, truthfulness, or intelligence, therefore when you see a lost person acting and living the way they do you should not be surprised. However, in 1 Corinthians 3:16 we learn "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?" beloved if the Spirit of God dwell in you then should not we be renewed to pre-fall status? Do you think that Adam before the fall acted like the world of post-fall status? The answer is certainly no and in our renewed state neither should we. So back to our question if someone was attempting to identify you as a person, what sort of identity do think it would include? Would it include a godly identity? One that reminds them of God? Remember Paul asked in1 Corinthians 3:16 "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God…" His Spirit now resides in us, we are no longer to do as we please, we are now renewed and now once again a temple of God and this is what others should see when they look at us and identify us. But how can they see this renewal if they cannot see inside of us? It must be an external identification. People will identify us by what they see in our outward works. James 2:18 "Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works." What do they see in you? |
| A Thought From C. H.
Spurgeon: An Angel Encampment We cannot see the angels, but it is enough that they can see us. There is one great Angel of the Covenant, whom not having seen we love, and His eye is always upon us both day and night. He has a host of holy ones under Him, and He causes these to be watchers over His saints and to guard them from all ill. If devils do us mischief, shining ones do us service. Note that the LORD of angels does not come and go and pay us transient visits, but He and His armies encamp around us. The headquarters of the army of salvation is where those live whose trust is in the living God. This camp surrounds the faithful so that they cannot be attacked from any quarter unless the adversary can break through the entrenchments of the LORD of angels. We have a fixed protection, a permanent watch. Sentineled by the messengers of God, we shall not be surprised by sudden assaults nor swallowed up by overwhelming forces. Deliverance is promised in this verse -- deliverance by the great Captain of our salvation, and that deliverance we shall obtain again and again until our warfare is accomplished and we exchange the field of conflict for the home of rest. |
| Update From The
Pastor: Please forgive me but the last two I have been extremely busy with work around the parsonage and preparing for our Bible Conference in September that I have unfortunately been forced to cut our newsletters for the last two weeks. I am trying to get everything accomplished and also the newsletters, however please continue to forgive me if we fail to prepare a newsletter every week from now through September. The church has "suspended" our Sunday School until further notice. Donna and I are just not able to carry this entire load every week and since the three preaching hours are the most important services I need this extra time to concentrate on them. Donna’s health continues to fail and does not seem to be getting much better and hinders her availability to teach the girls every Sunday. However, there is some interest from others to teach and if they decide this is the Lord’s direction for them then we will ask the church to re-start the program. The Bible Conference is coming together for September the 12th – the 13th. As of right now we have all ten slots filled and unless changes are made the following men will be speaking. Brother David Shortt from Windsor, Ontario Canada, 12th and 13th , Pastor Kelley Hinson from Ft. Worth, Texas 12th and 13th , Pastor Nathaniel Hille from Caldwell, Kansas 12th and 13th , Pastor Harold McSwain from Mansfield, Louisiana 13th , Pastor Ronnie Miller from Sulphur Springs, Texas 13th , Pastor Harace Hammond from Sulphur Springs, Texas 13th , and Pastor Randy Johnson on the 13th only. Brother Steve McCool will be delivering 2 short devotions 1 to open the morning service and the second to open the afternoon service. However some of this is still subject to change, September is still two months away. Please remember to pray about this event. |
