H. Spurgeon: Despise Not Thy Youth
Jeremiah was young and felt a natural shrinking when sent upon a great errand by the LORD; but He who sent him would not have him say, "I am a child." What he was in himself must not be mentioned but lost in the consideration that he was chosen to speak for God. He had not to think out and invent a message nor to choose an audience: he was to speak what God commanded and speak where God sent him, and this he would be enabled to do in strength not his own. Is it not so with some young preacher or teacher who may read these lines? God knows how young you are and how slender are your knowledge and experience; but if He chooses to send you, it is not for you to shrink from the heavenly call. God will magnify Himself in our feebleness. If you were as old as Methuselah, how much would your years help you? If you were as wise as Solomon, you might be equally as willful as he. Keep you to your message, and it will be your wisdom; follow your marching orders, and they will be your discretion. |
| A Thought From Our
Pastor: Hold That Tongue Matthew 12:36 "But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment". This week we have all heard the recordings of Jeremiah Wright of Trinity Unity Church of Christ blasted all over the air waves. I am not going to look at this from a political view but rather from religious view. First of all, I cannot remember the last time I have heard such hatred come out of the mouth of someone that called himself a Minister of the gospel. The recordings that I heard from this man were indeed too sad to have to listen too. If I were to preach a sermon (just one) like one of those the membership of our church would indeed tell (not ask) me to leave. If this is the hatred being ministered in black churches then we will never overcome the racism in America. I asked a brother in Christ this week at work whom is black if this was something preached in his church and he assured me it was not and that no message of that sort would ever be preached and if it were he would leave. I had to say, AMEN! From what I heard, this man (Jeremiah Wright) needs something and that something is Jesus Christ to save him, because there is no way this man could be saved and have such hatred for his fellow white Christians. 1 John 4:7-8 "Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. (8.) He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love." There are no stipulations in this love, we do not have to be all one race, we do not have to believe identical doctrines, or etc. Since we all (that are saved) have Christ Jesus in our hearts then this love flows from Him and He could never hate His own, white or black. I am certainly not Jeremiah Wright’s judge however the Lord did say we can tell a tree by his fruit and what I heard out of the mouth of Jeremiah Wright indicates this man does not knows our Saviour Jesus Christ in his heart. I am sure that he is a far cry from his father, Jeremiah Wright, Sr, who was a Baptist minister.I would like to say this to Jeremiah Wright and all who believe this hatred, you need a salvation check. If you cannot love your white brethren then you are not saved. However, I will assure Jeremiah Wright and all that are like him in this hatred this fact: "But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment". Whether saved or not he will answer to God in judgment for every single word against His people. Folks let us all keep in mind this fact, every time hate spews from our mouths God hears it and He never forgets. Someday when we stand before Him in judgment, He will remind us of things we said because we could not bridle our tongues. We do not know who the other children of God are, some we think are saved are really lost and some we think are lost are really saved. Therefore we must be kind to everyone even if they may have treated us wrong as Jeremiah Wright (in a very hateful way) tried to point out. |
| Thought for the
week: One
continued dream and delusion "They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts." Ephes. 4:18 The natural man's apprehension of divine things is corrupt. The understanding, that leading faculty, is despoiled of its primitive glory, and covered over with confusion. Tell them how they may advance their worldly wealth, or how they may gratify their lusts—and they will quickly understand these things. But it is very hard to make them know how their souls may be saved, or how their hearts may find rest in Christ. They are very stupid and unteachable in the matters of God. What woeful delusions prevail over them! Do we not often see those, who in other things are the wisest of men—yet are notorious fools with respect to their soul's interest? Many who are eagle-eyed in the trifles of time—yet are like owls and bats in the light of eternal realities. Nay, truly, the life of every natural man is but one continued dream and delusion, out of which he never awakes, until either, by a divine light darted from heaven into his soul, he comes to himself—or, in hell he lifts up his eyes in torment! Sin has closed the windows of the soul; darkness covers the whole. The prince of darkness reigns there, and nothing but the works of darkness are framed there. We are born spiritually blind—and cannot be restored without a miracle of grace. "For though your hearts were once full of darkness, now you are full of light from the Lord!"
