A Study Of The Book Of Titus. Lesson 9 Chapter 2:6 – 9 The object here is no matter who we are in the church or what office we hold or do not hold every single person is to make themselves an example for those younger than they are. God has already spoken to the older men and women in verse 1 – 5 now He speaks to the younger. Thomas Brooks once said "Example is the most powerful rhetoric."
a. This goes beyond their teaching and includes their everyday living. b. The word “pattern” means die or stamp that is something embedded c. Some are examples of what not to be but these young men are to display examples that should be followed. 1 Corinthians 10:5 - 7 “But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. (6.) Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. (7.) Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.” d. People well tend to follow the bad examples and the world and religious world are full of them but good examples are what is needed and expected of the Lord. e. 1 Timothy 4:12 "Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity."
a. showing uncorruptness is not being a hypocrite, being unfaithful to Gods word, not being untrustworthy, and etc. b. 2 Corinthians 2:17 "For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ." c. I think God best defined this in 2 Corinthians 4:2 “But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.”
a. Let me just add here; sound speak is like truth it can never be condemned. Now man may condemn it but God never will and He is the only one that counts. 2 Timothy 1:13 “Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.” b. 1 Timothy 6:3 - 4 "If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; (4.) He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,"
a. What puts a liar to shame? TRUTH! b. Isaiah 66:5 "Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed."
